Introduction

EstiMate brings lightweight Planning-Poker right into your Jira issues. Team members pick cards, reveal together, group results by value, and set the final story point estimate.

Installation & Access

Install EstiMate from the Atlassian Marketplace for your Jira Cloud site.
Open any issue. In the issue panel (issue view), find the app panel “EstiMate”.
(Optional but recommended) Configure the project’s Story Points field in Project Settings.

Permissions needed: the app requests minimal Jira scopes (read/write issue fields, read users, storage).

Starting a Session

1) Open EstiMate panel

Open the target issue and locate the EstiMate panel. Click Start Voting.

2) Session is live

Your avatar appears in the participant list. Others viewing the same issue can click Join Session.

Joining & Voting

Participants see avatars with a small status badge: Voted / Not Voted.
Pick a card from the deck to submit your vote. You can change your card before reveal.
Deck values can include numbers and special tokens like ☕ or ? (see Custom Deck).

Reveal & Revote

When everyone is ready, click Reveal. Results are grouped by value with participant avatars in each row. If needed, click Revote to clear votes and start a new round on the same session, or Reset to end the session.

Save the Final Estimate

After reveal, click a result row to prefill the Final estimate input with that value, or type a value manually.
Click Save Estimate to write it to your configured Jira field (usually Story Points).

Heads-up:

If you see a notice like “To enable saving the final estimate…”, go to Project Settings → EstiMate and choose a numeric field.
If saving fails with an error like “Field cannot be set. It is not on the screen”, add the selected field to the issue’s screen (Edit/View) or pick another field in EstiMate settings.

Project Settings

Project admins can configure EstiMate per project:

Go to Project settings → Apps → EstiMate – Project Settings.
Select the numeric Jira field to store the final estimate (e.g., your Story Points field).
(Optional) Configure a custom card deck.
You can also Unset field (clear only the field selection) or Reset config (delete EstiMate config for this project).

We only show field names and IDs so admins can choose exactly the intended field in their schema.

Custom Card Deck

EstiMate supports a per-project custom deck. Typical numeric sequences:

Fibonacci: 0,1,2,3,5,8,13,21
Modified Fib: 0, ½, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 20
T-shirt: XS, S, M, L, XL
Extras: ☕ (break), ? (unknown)

How to set: In Project settings → Apps → EstiMate – Project Settings → Card Deck enter values separated by commas (numbers or plain text). Example: 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, ☕, ?

FAQ & Troubleshooting

Why don’t I see “Save Estimate”?

The project may not have a target field selected. Go to Project settings → Apps → EstiMate and choose a numeric field.

“Field cannot be set. It is not on the screen.”

Add the chosen field to the issue’s screen (View/Edit) in your Jira screen scheme, or pick another numeric field in EstiMate settings.

We use T-shirt sizing. Can we still save Story Points?

Yes—pick a numeric result to save. Non-numeric votes (like XS/S/M) won’t be written to a numeric Story Points field unless you choose a numeric final value.

Who can configure EstiMate?

Project admins. Settings are per project.

Where is data stored?

In Atlassian Forge Storage. We do not run external databases. See Privacy & Security.
